I remember Halloween in Smithfield. It was perfect. Kids were out in their costumes prowling the neighborhood. There were sidewalks everywhere so it was very safe. People were so friendly there.
When we moved to Flower Mound, TX, Halloween was great there as well. The first year we were there, I urged Cameron to hit the neighborhood and go trick or treating. He did and I went along as he was 12 years old then and we were still new to the neighborhood. We met a mom and son who lived down the street while trick or treating and we talked him into going with us. He had not planned on it but his mom found a mask for him and off we went. A friendship was made. The two boys were really very different but they found they could play video games together - for hours!

I still miss my Cameron enormously. So many little things remind me that he is no longer here to share my experiences. I hate that the most. (Cameron suicided in 2005 - he was 18) I tend to remember his criticizing what I would choose to wear when I'm out shopping now. So my son was actually my friend as well who was honest with me - most of the time. Once meth became his "friend" all that was out the window. I still thank him for the 18 years he was in my life.
